On the road side, the A7 motorway is the main economic catalyst, connecting the region quickly with Bucharest and, onwards on the A2, with the port of Constanța. In the medium term, the A8 motorway project will raise the area's connectivity significantly, linking the east of the country to Transylvania and the European network. The Iași and Pașcani rail hubs carry freight along Pan-European Corridor IX. Galați adds a further advantage: its river-maritime port on the Danube. Iași International Airport, recently modernised, together with the Bacău and Suceava airports, offers light air-cargo and express-courier options. Pharma, textiles & apparel, and the wood processing industry drive occupier demand in East/North-East, a market of 0.25 million sqm where rents range from €4 to €4.5/sqm/month. (Source: Crosspoint Research, Romanian Real Estate Market H1 2026) ## History The region's industrial backbone was built around the Galați steelworks: decree in 1960, construction started in July of the same year, official inauguration in September 1966. Steel production began in July 1968, and at its 1972 peak the plant had over 40,000 employees; in 1988 it hit a maximum of 8.2 million tonnes a year. Privatisation came in November 2001, through the sale to LNM Holdings NV for 70 million dollars, followed by the transfer under Mittal Steel, then ArcelorMittal, and since 2019 the platform has been controlled by Liberty House Group. The logistics segment is more recent: in 2021 the region was classed as an emerging market, and in September 2025 Helios Phoenix bought 15 hectares in Miroslava, near Iași, for Olympian Park. ## Amenities and access CTPark Ploiești (Brazi) occupies 25.3 ha with 85,409 sqm built, certified BREEAM Outstanding with a score of 89.9%, with solar panels and water recycling; connected to the A3, DN72 and DN1, under an hour from Otopeni.
