## History

The land was part of the Băneasa Hippodrome, demolished in stages under the communist regime: the right-hand side in 1952, the left-hand side in 1960. On the former racetrack, between 1952 and 1957, Casa Scânteii was built, the headquarters of the party newspaper Scânteia, designed by the architect Horia Maicu; it remained the tallest building in Bucharest for decades. On the western side of the former hippodrome, next to Casa Presei Libere, the ROMEXPO exhibition complex developed.

The transformation into an office hub began in 1994, when World Trade Center Bucharest opened, a member of the World Trade Centers Association. It was followed by City Gate Towers, completed in 2010 at Piața Presei Libere, Expo Business Park in 2019 and developer Atenor's @Expo complex, delivered in stages in 2021 and 2023 and sold to an international investor in March 2026.

## Amenities and access

The area is within walking distance of Herăstrău Park (110 ha, with a 74 ha lake) and the Village Museum, and ROMEXPO hosts trade fairs and events. The Pullman WTC hotel has a conference centre, and the complex's shopping gallery totals over 3,500 sqm of shops and restaurants. Expo Business Park has an ING bank branch, a Medicover clinic, the Eight salon, the Stradale restaurant, the Mitzu café, a World Class gym and Spaces flexible offices.

Access:
- 1 Mai metro station (M4), about 400-450 m from Expo Business Park and @Expo
- The future M6 Expoziției station (Gara de Nord - Henri Coandă Airport), under construction
- Expoziției Boulevard, the area's main artery
- Car access: 1 Mai Boulevard, Strada Griviței, Șoseaua Kiseleff, Mărăști Boulevard, Șoseaua București-Ploiești (DN1) towards Otopeni
- Piața Presei Libere, a major road junction, the first square on the way into Bucharest from the airport
