South-West
Romania's South-West region (Argeș, Dâmbovița, Vâlcea, Olt, Dolj, Gorj and Mehedinți) is built mainly on automotive manufacturing, metallurgy and energy, around the automotive platforms at Mioveni and Craiova. It is served by the A1 motorway (Bucharest – Pitești) and the DEx12 expressway (Craiova – Pitești), which links the region's two poles. In the medium term, the works on the A1 Pitești – Sibiu will complete the area's logistics potential towards the west of the country and, along Pan-European Corridor IV, towards the port of Constanța.
The Craiova and Pitești rail hubs handle heavy volumes of industrial freight.
Air: Craiova International Airport (modernised and extended) serves the region for cargo and courier services.

Romania's South-West developed industrially around the Pitești and Craiova hubs, on the A1 axis towards the capital and the Craiova – Pitești expressway. The area has a tradition in automotive, metallurgy and energy and offers fast access to the Bucharest consumer market. Modern logistics parks complement the historic industrial platforms.
History
The automotive platform at Mioveni and the Ford industrial platform in Craiova formed the region's industrial core, around which component suppliers and logistics parks settled. Kirchhoff Automotive opened its first factory in Romania on the Ford platform in Craiova, producing metal body structures for the B-Max model. The opening of the Craiova – Pitești expressway linked the region's two poles and consolidated its role as a manufacturing corridor.
