The area, at a glance
The Expoziției area, around Piața Presei Libere and Romexpo, has become one of the capital's new office poles. Class A projects have developed on the back of metro access and proximity to the established north. The area attracts companies looking for new buildings with up-to-date specifications.
History
The land was part of the Băneasa Hippodrome, demolished in stages under the communist regime: the right-hand side in 1952, the left-hand side in 1960. On the former racetrack, between 1952 and 1957, Casa Scânteii was built, the headquarters of the party newspaper Scânteia, designed by the architect Horia Maicu; it remained the tallest building in Bucharest for decades. On the western side of the former hippodrome, next to Casa Presei Libere, the ROMEXPO exhibition complex developed.
The transformation into an office hub began in 1994, when World Trade Center Bucharest opened, a member of the World Trade Centers Association. It was followed by City Gate Towers, completed in 2010 at Piața Presei Libere, Expo Business Park in 2019 and developer Atenor's @Expo complex, delivered in stages in 2021 and 2023 and sold to an international investor in March 2026.
