Pipera North

Pipera Nord is one of the main office areas in northern Bucharest, developed around the Pipera–Tunari and Dimitrie Pompeiu arteries, with a significant concentration of modern buildings and business campuses. The area is attractive for companies seeking access to the workforce of northern Bucharest and the neighbouring localities.

The area, at a glance

Pipera North concentrates office campuses developed over the last decade, on the northern edge of the city. The area offers large floor areas, generous parking and competitive rents, and is favoured by operations with large headcounts. The connection to the metro and the northern arteries remains the selection criterion.

History

Until the early 20th century, Pipera (also known as Tătărani) was a farming village on the north-eastern edge of Bucharest, today part of the town of Voluntari. After 1989, the farmland was gradually taken over by construction, and the area became the capital's north-eastern administrative boundary.

From that point on, Pipera became a hub of office parks: IRIDE, Novo Park, UpGround (the BOB and BOC towers), Global City, Swan Office Park, Twin Towers Barba Center. UpGround brought about 60,000 sqm of leasable space in two buildings next to the future metro station, and Global City built 87,600 sqm of gross built area (51,346 sqm of Class A GLA) with floor plates of 1,400-3,400 sqm. The Pipera metro station opened in 2020 on Line 2; the pandemic then hit an area that employed over 100,000 people in offices.

Amenities and access

The office area is flanked by international schools (British School of Bucharest, Cambridge School, American International School of Bucharest) and shopping centres such as Băneasa Shopping City, Pipera Plaza, Lemon Retail Park, Cosmopolis Plaza and Jolie Ville Galleria.

Access is via the axis between Șoseaua București Nord and Pipera Boulevard and through the Pipera metro station, opened in 2020 on Line 2. Planned:

a metro extension towards Petricani, with two more stations, for traffic from the Bucharest–Ploiești motorway (A3);
a tram extension towards Barbu Văcărescu Boulevard, with a connection to line 5, a pedestrian passage and a park-and-ride car park, in addition to trams 16 and 36 and the existing bus lines.

Bus line 290 links the area to Henri Coandă Airport (Otopeni) in approximately 36 minutes; by car, the distance is 13-14.5 km, about 15 minutes.
