South/South-East

Romania's South/South-East region (Prahova, Buzău, Brăila, Ialomița, Călărași, Tulcea, Constanța, Giurgiu and Teleorman) is built mainly on oil & gas, petrochemicals, agriculture and port logistics. It has a developed road network: the A2 (Bucharest – Constanța) and A3 (Bucharest – Ploiești) motorways, plus the A7 motorway on the Ploiești – Buzău section, which links the region to Moldavia. The port of Constanța and the Danube ports of Brăila and Tulcea open the region to maritime and river transport.

The Ploiești and Constanța rail hubs handle significant volumes of industrial and containerised freight, on the Pan-European Rhine-Danube Corridor.

Air: Mihail Kogălniceanu International Airport (Constanța) offers air-cargo and courier options for the region.

About the area

The area, at a glance

Romania's South and South-East developed industrially around the Ploiești hub and the port of Constanța, on the A2 and A3 axes towards the capital. The area has a tradition in petrochemicals and offers fast access to the Bucharest consumer market and to the maritime and river corridors. Modern logistics parks complement the historic industrial platforms.

History

The A2 motorway (Autostrada Soarelui, the Sun Motorway), 201.98 km between Bucharest and Constanța, starting from Cățelu, has been fully operational since 29 November 2012, the moment that opened the eastern and south-eastern corridor to logistics park development. CTP bought the CTPark Bucharest South park in 2021 and later expanded it to 150,000 sqm, making it the largest logistics park south of the capital. The company operates six industrial parks around Bucharest: CTPark Bucharest South, CTPark Bucharest West and CTPark Bucharest on the A1, CTPark Chitila, CTPark Mogoșoaia and CTPark Bucharest North. In parallel, the southern corridor consolidated as an automotive platform: Kirchhoff Automotive opened its first factory in Romania on the Ford industrial platform in Craiova, producing metal body structures for the B-Max model.

Amenities and access

The corridor rests on two motorways. On the A1, towards Pitești, A1 Business Park occupies 120,000 sqm at km 13.5, about 2 km from the Bucharest logistics perimeter, and further south Lazar Logistic Center sits 200 m from the motorway, 5 minutes from Pitești. On the A2, towards Constanța (201.98 km, starting from Cățelu), the following are positioned:

  • WDP Park Bucharest–Fundulea: over 40,000 sqm, roughly 30 km from Bucharest
  • VGP Park Bucharest 2 (East): at the junction of the A2 and the capital's ring road, with direct access to the city centre and to Constanța
  • CTPark Bucharest South (Popești-Leordeni): between the ring road and the future A0 motorway, 9 km from the A2, with routes to the port of Constanța, Bulgaria, Greece and Turkey
  • CTPark Bucharest and CTPark Bucharest West: on the A1 corridor, west of the capital
